THE JEZABELS release debut album Prisoner in Asia with Promotional Tour

Untitled Records are delighted to announce the upcoming Asian album release of hotly tipped Australian favorites, The Jezabels. The band’s debut full-length album, Prisoner, will be available in markets across South East Asia in June, coinciding with a four-date promotional tour of the region.

From humble beginnings in a Sydney University band competition to winners of the prestigious Australian Music Prize, singer Hayley Mary, keys player Heather Shannon, guitarist Sam Lockwood and drummer Nik Kaloper have fashioned a musical cocktail of power and elegance that has resonated with fans across continents. Their polarities of grandiose theatrics and gothic intensity melding into a trademark sound that is moody, mysterious and epic, whilst buzzing with the group’s ever-present knack for an irresistible pop hook.

Already Gold certified and #1 on the iTunes chart in Australia, Prisoner is a panoramic study of tension and emancipation, from the echoing stone cathedral of the title track to the sun-blasted morning of the first single, Endless Summer; from the cloistered atmospherics of the instrumental interlude, Austerlitz, to the chiming and climbing pop of Deep Wide Ocean and the quiet reflecting pool of Peace of Mind.

“The lyrics are set out as a letter to a prisoner,” singer Hayley says. “I’m interested in the idea of your personal role in your own oppression. To a certain extent the album explores the idea of looking at yourself as a prisoner and asking about the reasons for that. Are they external or are they internal?”

The first international act signed to Untitled Entertainment’s new record label division – Untitled Records, The Jezabels were ideal partners from the start. “The label is there to work hand in hand with our live business, and only with artists that understand the value and importance of touring,” says Untitled Entertainment’s Business Director Dash Nagata. “The Jezabels are a band we truly believe in. One we can grow alongside, who share our vision of wanting to develop Asia as a region for fresh and exciting music.”

A tireless work ethic remains central to The Jezabels. Their commitment to Asia has already seen them take part in the The People’s Party cross-regional series (along with Bombay Bicycle Club, Metronomy and The Naked & Famous) in January. Now they’re back for their first set of headlining club dates as part of a promotional album tour that will encompass Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Support on the evening comes from HK’s very own Sun Eskimos who will be playing an acoustic set to warm up the crowd!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
澳洲四人獨立樂隊The Jezabels (邪惡女孩)加盟Untitled Records第一力作，首張錄音室大碟<Prisoner> (牢中之鳥)亞洲注目登場，隨即於6月15-17及19日於新加坡、吉隆坡、台北及香港巡迴演出，廣大樂迷引頸以待!
樂隊成員Hayley Mary (主音)、Heather Shannon (鍵琴手)、Sam Lockwood(結他手) 以及 Nik Kaloper (鼓手)結緣於大學時代，其破格、具爆炸力的現場演出獲得中外傳媒垂愛，而主音Hayley招牌式紅唇及舞臺上懾人的張力令人留下深刻印象。樂隊於澳紐等 地迅速竄紅，一手摘下今年度澳洲音樂大獎而聲名大噪。
首張專輯達金唱片銷量，主打歌曲旋風式橫掃澳洲大細碟榜，受眾多音樂雜誌熱烈追捧。由首張單曲 “Endless Summer”醒活急勁的舞動節拍，“Austerlitz”隱世靈修的飄渺氛圍，“Deep Wide Ocean”豁然開懷的遼闊音域，到 “ Peace of Mind”那種超然的恬靜無遺，The Jezabels 的音樂圖譜觸動了心靈的思潮起伏。「歌詞猶如是一封給牢中人的信」主音Hayley說。「這張唱片希望讓大家看到困在牢中的自己，並反思固中的原因」。
The Jezabels加盟Untitled Records首個巡唱如弓在弦，主力營辦音樂會的Untitled Entertainment表示公司對推動音樂事業發展有策略性的擴展。「唱片發行及巡迴演唱密不可分，而且同樣重要，Untitled對The Jezabels予以肯定及支持，期望能夠與樂隊緊密合作，為亞洲地區注入更多音樂活力。」業務總監 Dash Nagata表示。
樂隊為準備在亞洲大展拳腳已經蓄勢待發，年初參與The People’s Party (隨團演出有 Bombay Bicycle Club(孟買單車俱樂部), Metronomy (節拍響度)及The Naked and Famous(一脫成名)巡迴演出時已經鋒芒畢露，今次強勢回歸，於新加坡、吉隆坡、台北及香港四個亞洲熱點城市演出，定必成為下半年獨立音樂演出的焦 點。
From the cover of Alternative Press to Fox’s “American Dad,” from the sands of Dubai to the Warped Tour, from Japan to Australia to South America, AUGUST BURNS RED crisscrossed the globe time and again on the road to the top of the hard rock heap.
When it came time to record their fourth full-length album, ‘Leveler,’ ABR could have played it safe, could have simply cashed in on their previous success by making Constellations II. Instead, after eight years and a quarter of a million albums sold, AUGUST BURNS RED scrapped the old game plan and followed their sound where it led them. The direction, as it turns out, was both forward and backward. On ‘Leveler’, the band recaptured the hungry, ferocious heaviness of their earlier albums, and at the same time bravely indulged some of the more creative impulses they had previously stifled. The breathtaking result is nothing short of a game-changer.
Support on the night comes from blessthefall hailing from Phoenix, AZ. Having stormed to the forefront of the new evolution of the post-hardcore/metalcore genre with the release of their critically-acclaimed second album ‘Witness’ they debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #56 and the Independent Chart at #6. In May 2011, the band hit the recording studio to churn out their third full-length album ‘Awakening.’ The album was named by Alternative Press as one of 2011’s Most Anticipated Albums. Trying to win over new fans while appeasing the old may be a difficult task for some bands, but blessthefall accept it eagerly as a challenge that they’ll work toward with their forthcoming tours and releases.
Untitled Entertainment are pleased to announce that seminal indie legends The Wedding Present will perform their classic album ‘Seamonsters’ live in Hong Kong at Grappa’s Cellar on the 19<sup>th</sup> April.
With a career spanning twenty seven years, eighteen UK top 40 single hits and countless releases, live dates and plaudits, The Wedding Present have always maintained a fiercely independent spirit and throughout, have charted a pioneering, if often eccentric, course of their very own.
Having enjoyed instant UK success as part of the burgeoning “C86” scene, their 1987 debut LP ‘George Best’ won them further critical acclaim. Their 1989 follow up ‘Bizarro’ produced by Chris Allison (Coldplay, The Beta Band) featured their first hit single ‘Kennedy’ and opened up the American college radio scene to their sound. The band cemented their US ties by recording their next album ‘Seamonsters’ (1991) in the States with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey) and once more to a rapturous reception this LP fast became a fans favourite. They’ve gone on to work with Albini across the decades.
The band came up with their next intriguing idea in 1992. By the end of December, The Wedding Present had released twelve singles, one per month, equaled Elvis Presley’s 35 year old record for “most hits in one year”, rekindled everyone’s interest in that ultimate pop format, the 7″ and led the NME to describe the band as “casually revolutionary and underhandedly unique”. A gang of impressive names, including Ian Broudie from The Lightning Seeds and legendary Rolling Stones producer Jimmy Miller collaborated on the industry-challenging project, ultimately to be compiled on to two separate releases entitled ‘Hit Parade.’
Following two more albums ‘Watusi’ and ‘Saturnalia’, vocalist and main man David Gedge took a break from The Wedding Present to create a new project called Cinerama and released three albums inspired by the love of film music.
Reforming The Wedding Present in 2004, Gedge and Co. set about on the group’s largest ever tours and managed to maintain a healthy release schedule with 2005’s ‘Take Fountain’ and 2008’s ‘El Rey’. The group’s next LP is due out in 2012.
To mark the 21<sup>st</sup> anniversary of ‘Bizarro’ the group toured the album playing it live track-by-track to enthralled audiences throughout Europe, America and Japan. This year, the group continues this concept by playing the album ‘Seamonsters’ for half of the set, whilst for the other half playing a collection of both old classics spanning their career and new material. Hong Kong fans both new and old now have the opportunity to catch this legendary group in all their glory at Grappa’s Cellar on the 19<sup>th</sup> of April. Don’t miss out!
Some quotes:
‘The boy Gedge has written some of the best love songs of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Era. You may dispute this, but I’m right and you’re wrong!‘ – John Peel
‘Some of the funniest, cleverest and most relevant indie you’re likely to hear.‘ – NME
‘Gedge has consistently been way ahead of other, more lauded musicians.’ – The Guardian
~~Logo has been confirmed as the support act on the night~~
